Moving into August I’ve found the creatures living down Greenway Lane are varying to different species. I’ve noticed a great difference from last year August 2020 of the species I am seeing now as then. The weather hasn’t helped and it is almost feeling as though autumn is going to be with us early this year.

There is still plenty to see but not so easy to locate, a few Crickets about and Grasshoppers who we see jump as we walk up the lane. The grass hasn’t been cut as yet so they are still very much about.

This tiny little Weevil was in the grass, I’m not sure of the name of it at the moment.

There was a Spider under a leaf in the lane, they are very quick to disappear but I managed to get and image and then I spotted the web and babies plus empty eggs nearby and guessed there was a connection I found out what it was from the UK Spiders Facebook page, this was the answer – Pisaura mirabilis, the nursery web spider. That is the mother and the babies are in the nursery tent she has created for them. Spiders are not something I know too much about and we have a few in the UK some 650 species so it’s going to be a long time before I see and identify them all!

Of course there is always a few flies and Hoverflies about.

I’m enjoying photographing the Damselflies in the dew, at least they are static and I can get really close to them.

There are a number Dragonflies down the lane, I’ve seen the Golden-ringed Dragonfly a couple of times and there are Southern Hawkers at the top end of the lane while towards the bottom in the lighter areas there are Common Darters and the Brown Hawkers are just emerging although difficult to photograph as they are always on the move.

I’m hoping the weather is going to improve in the second half of August although whatever the weather there is always something to see!
