Hammoon

On Saturday 5th February I looked out the window before dawn and saw a lovely red developing in the sky, I decided I would head for Hammoon for the pre sunrise and what a beautiful one it was, these special mornings have been few and far between so I try to get up to photograph them. Of course Tilly comes as well and after we had watched the sun rising with all the changing colours I went to the North Dorset Trailway on the Hammoon road to take Tilly for a walk of course and hopefully as it was getting lighter I would spot a few birds about.

It’s always a good place to spot wildlife, there is a section that cuts through fields and the the woodland beyond. There were a small herd of seven Roe deer in one of the fields, apparently they do join up at this time of year so you can see larger groups of them at the moment.

There were Song Thrushes in the hedgerow singing loudly at the moment and it’s good to see there are a few about , I’ve seen more this year than previous years.

There was also a small flock of Linnets up in the hedgerow and I did hear some Skylarks in the field beyond the hedge, not the flying high singing but definitely the sound of Skylarks.

It was also nice to see a number of Yellowhammers, the males looking very handsome in the early morning light. It’s alway been a good place to spot them and along the hedgerow of the Hammoon road and I wasn’t disappointed.

A flock of Redwings on the fields and Hedgerows, there were probably Fieldfares with them but I didn’t spot them. It was soon time to go home for a welcome cup of tea and breakfast I’m pleased I stopped there for a while.
