Barn Owl

Thursday 17th February in the morning was fine and not too breezy, it had rained in the night and walking round the village on our muddy tracks didn’t appeal to me so before dawn I drove down to the Trailway car park so I could walk on solid ground! I walked towards Bere Marsh Farm and as I did so a Barn Owl came flying behind me heading towards the farm. I knew I wouldn’t get an image of him flying as although the skies were clear it was still fairly dark but I was lucky he landed on a fence post a little distance away. I managed to get a photo before he flew on.

He then flew past the farm and I suspected he landed near the pond, sure enough he was there and I managed to get a couple more photos of him before he flew back to his roost in the barn. I had a very long focal length lens on the camera so I didn’t disturb him. It always gives me a thrill to see these beautiful birds.

I continued walking up to the Hammoon road and back and there were a few birds about , seven Roe deer in one of the end fields. A pleasant walk and I’m so pleased to see the Barn Owl once again.

    1. I’ve watched them for many years and have learnt the best times, although it doesn’t always work that way!

  1. Fantastic photos of the Barn Owl Marilyn. Have not seen one so far this year, so may have to pay you a visit!!
