Okeford Hill

After storm Eunice went through on Friday 18th February it was clear skies the next morning. I decided to go up to Okeford Hill for my early morning walk, I knew the paths round the village would be pretty wet again so I hoped it would be easier walking on the hills.

It was just getting light as I got there and it was pretty quiet but as I was crossing the field to Bonsley wood I spotted a couple of Roe deer at the edge of the field, they disappeared into the woods as we got closer.

Soon things got busier, Song Thrush high in the trees singing, a few Skylarks singing in the skies as always difficult to spot and a Buzzard in the field.

As I got to the path near the trig point I soon spotted Stonechats and Yellowhammers, the scrubby bushes and trees at the side of the path seem to attract them and they can fly onto the fields to feed.

What was nice to see was a large flock of Fieldfares, there must have been a hundred or more and also smaller flocks of Redwings on the large field between Okeford Hill and Bonsley Common.

As I walked back to the car as always there were birds in the hedge near the carpark, Wrens , Tits, Dunnocks and others. A pleasant walk before breakfast and a welcome cup of tea.
