On the 15th April I met friend Ange early in the morning and headed for Blandford. We wanted to walk the river bank in a hope of seeing something interesting. It wasn’t too busy but we did have some interesting views of a few birds. I noticed something on a dead tree in the river and when I focussed my camera on it I realised it was a bird who blended very well into it’s surroundings. We weren’t sure what it was so I had to wait until I got home for identification on The Birds UK Facebook page, A Common Sandpiper.
Of course we hoped to see a Kingfisher and after a while we spotted one flying up stream, we managed to find it perched on the other side of the river, it stayed for a while but then disappeared, at least we saw one!
It was great to see a male Blackcap in the Blackthorn blossom. I heard it singing and spotted it in the bush, great to have them back.
Other than that it was very quiet so I spent some time practicing birds in flight on the Black headed Gulls!
After a couple of hours we went into Blandford for a cup of tea and a bite in the Georgian Tearooms, highly recommended and a good finish to our morning.
