Looks like autumn migration is underway now at the beginning of September. Early in the morning on 1st September I spotted lots of Swallows gathering on the electric wires at the back of our house, busy preening their feathers and flying over the field feeding on insects.
I think we have more this year than last, at one time they were spread on all the wires and on the rooves of the houses, a wonderful sight. Of course I had to get my camera and it was then in amongst the Swallows I saw some House Martins and a real surprise and excitement Sand Martins I’ve never seen them close to home before.
A few birds have been drifting in in the last few days but not in the same numbers. Always a sad time of year, watching them leave and knowing autumn is well on it’s way, I hope they return to a greener landscape next year.
