We have had a couple of trips to RSPB Arne recently, within a week, it is lovely there at this time of the year, come to think of it any time of the year! My main excuse is that I want to practice using my 100-400mm lens. We do enjoy it as you never know what you will come across. These visits were no exception.
The Grey squirrels were very busy collecting and storing food for the winter. We were lucky to spot a Woodpecker, Goldcrest and Kestrel as we walked around. Probably the closest image of a Kestrel I have managed to get up until now!
We had been hoping to see Sika stags rutting but we haven’t been there at the right time although there was one mating on the marsh, not very elegant but I’m sure he was happy.
As we left Arne on one of our trips I noticed something white in the woods by the side of the road. I got out to investigate to find a large herd of young deer including stags. There was a young white stag with a Magpie on it’s back pecking out ticks perhaps, the deer didn’t seem to bothered. It was this deer I spotted from the car.
I was just going back to the car and climbing back through the fence when I spotted the white Adult Stag watching me from under the trees. I was so excited and managed to take some pictures of the magnificent animal. A lucky day.
