March came “In like a Lion” as the old saying goes, we’ve been subjected to bouts of high winds and rain, all the paths are tricky to walk on, I’m just hoping March “Goes out like a Lamb”, the forecast for the next couple of weeks looks promising so hopefully spring will move forward.
The weather has been so poor it hasn’t really been good for landscape pictures, I know you can take images in rough weather but the light has been very disappointing around home. So when I go out I am looking for wildlife, it’s a good time of year for seeing birds as they prepare their nests for the breeding season. Although on some days I haven’t even taken my camera!
I walked up towards the Hammoon road and New Cross one morning when the sun was shining and spotted a Roe deer buck in the next field on the brow of the hill, I was walking up the side of the hedge with Tilly on the other side so he wasn’t too spooked by us. He disappeared over the top, but when we walked back down the hill there was a doe near where we saw the buck she was a little more twitchy and soon ran away when she got wind of us.

There were still the Little Egrets in Netmead field they have been gathered there for quite a while feeding, I should imagine they will soon pair up. There were also Canada Geese in the same field.

I wanted to see the progress of the Herons, I stayed fairly well back as I didn’t want to disturb them. There was certainly plenty of action with Herons going backwards and forwards to the Heronry, they were moving twigs around and some were paired up, I haven’t been up since the last winds so I hope all is still well.
