On Friday 5th June I went on an early walk under Hambledon Hill, we had some rain the day before and it was little cloudy and chilly. I’m hoping that some more Orchids particularly Bee Orchids are showing.
On my way around the base of the hill on a narrow path I was stopped in my tracks by a White Park Cow and I had to do a slight detour, not before I got a picture of her of course!
Lots of Common Spotted Orchids coming out and a couple of Greater Butterfly Orchids but no Bee Orchids perhaps next time.
As I made my way home I often pass through Child Okeford churchyard and I noticed two large fungi on the old yew tree, they were bright yellow when I got home I identified them as Chicken of the Woods, Laetiporus sulphureus as far as I can tell. They are edible and have a lemony meaty taste although I haven’t tried them, can’t say I fancy tasting them!
As I got close to home I spotted a Blackcap male singing loudly In the hedgerow a lovely finish to my walk.
