We have been having some cold frosty mornings with clear blues skies recently. Around the middle of April I took a couple of walks round Netmead field around dawn both frosty and clear. On my way there were two does running across the field they soon disappeared into the woodland.

When we got there I noticed a Heron feeding off the rough ground, he wasn’t too worried about us and just carried on some distance away from us.There were a few small birds about, Yellowhammers, Linnets, Wrens, Chiffchaffs to name a few but they were keeping well into the undergrowth.

On my way up Netmead lane I spotted some Roe deer in the field adjacent to the lane quite close, I had to find a gap in the hedge to see them and to take a picture, it’s getting more difficult as the leaves come out! But I managed to find a small gap and took some images of them in the morning sunlight

A couple of days later I did the same walk and was surprised by two Roe bucks this time who suddenly appeared out of the hedge and they were having a little tussle, not too serious I don’t think just some practice for later in the year.

Instead of a Heron this time there were two Little Egrets foraging on the field, they were happy to stay there for quite some time until we got too close.

A little bit of camouflage, the Hen Pheasant below was across the river in a Blackthorn bush, the Pheasant was trying not to be noticed and then I saw Yellowhammers in the field which has now been rolled, I spotted movement and there they were blending in nicely at a distance as were the Linnets and other birds.
