The weather has changed, we have had some rain accompanied by thunder and high winds, the tail end of Hurricane Bertha we were told by the weatherman. But we didn’t have the deluge like in some parts of the country. The river is up a little which has done no harm. It feels quite autumny, I do hope not as it’s only the middle of August.
It’s been quiet in the last few days after all the excitement of the Barn owl last week, tonight I decided to go for a longer than usual walk with Kim. We ended going up New Cross it’s out of the way and I usually see something interesting particularly at either end if the day.
Tonight was no exception it was a pleasant evening and the days showers had cleared away. There were House Martins skimming the fields feeding off the flies no doubt. I could also hear the Herons in the Heronry coming into roost.I spotted a deer in the path in the distance and we crept slowly towards it and managed to get quite close before it took off it was then I realised she had two babies with her and they disappeared towards the woods. Then there was two more deer on the slopes of the adjoining field they spotted us and soon disappeared.

I didn’t realise until I got home that there was also a stag with them, I thought it was mum until I saw the antlers!

I returned back on the trailway and spotted a pair of Jays giving their distinctive call. As I crossed the footbridge there must have been at least 20 Long tailed tits cross over the river peep peeping away they are so distinctive with their little round bodies and long tails.
