The September weather has been very kind to us so far, it has been very warm and sunny at times and it’s set to continue for a little longer. We are having some beautiful misty mornings and myself and the two dogs are now out well before the sun comes over the back of Hambledon Hill.

The season is changing now and I’m seeing different patterns with the wildlife. Most of our Swallows did disappear, although there are still a few about and we may get some moving down from up north. I for one will miss them as I always do at this time of the year. The Hedgehogs are very active in the gardens in our street, Kim often wakes us up at nights barking at one through the conservatory and there is plenty of Hedgehog poo about!
There are different birds coming into the garden. We now have a resident Robin who has staked his claim and wo betide any other Robin coming near. We don’t see so much of the Dunnock or Blackbirds now. I found the Dunnocks old nest in my Honeysuckle when I was clearing the garden today. We are seeing Long tailed tits and Goldfinches coming in now and again which is great.
I’m seeing the Kingfisher, Heron, Egret and Moorhens regularly down on the river and there are plenty of little birds rummaging around as are the Grey squirrels collecting Hazelnuts for the winter. We spot the Buzzards most days flying in the thermals and calling to one another, they have such a meewing cry for a big bird. The leaves are beginning to change particularly the Horse Chestnut trees.
