Sunday 26th October

We are still enjoying relatively mild weather for the time of year. I can’t believe it’s nearly November. The clocks went back in the night so we are now into Greenwich Mean Time until March. It means it’s a little lighter in the mornings for a short while so I can go out a little earlier with the dogs.

There haven’t been any Swallows around for a little while so they must have all gone off to Africa now for the winter, there were quite a few still hanging around until recently. There is still plenty to see on my early morning walks. The Long-tailed tits are going around in flocks peep-peeping to each other and very busy. There are a few Goldfinches around and the House Sparrows are still making a lot of noise in the hedging near Bere Marsh. We have a Robin on sentry duty in the Spinney he always appears as we are walking through.

I’ve spotted a Weasel crossing the trailway a couple of times early in the morning and the Buzzard flying around Bere Marsh or grubbing around on the field. There was a Kestrel being hounded by a Rook this morning.

There is still plenty of work happening on Bere Marsh farm at the moment, I never know what I’m going to find. The latest is the double fence connecting the footbridge to the other side of the field which then goes towards the farm. It channels walkers across the field. I’m not sure what to think, the trouble is many people do not respect the farmers land and countryside these days which is quite sad.
