Thursday 29th August

Sunrise 06.17 Sunset 20.00

The weather has been settled with cooler nights but warm and sunny with cloud during the days. This week we have had thick fog to light mists over the river Stour but that has soon lifted once the sun has got over Hambledon Hill.

There has been a few Martins and Swallows about, starting to gather for the journey I’m afraid. There is definitely a change in the air and autumn is just round the corner. I’m starting to hear and see more birds on my walks, they seem more vocal again especially just around dawn. We have a Robin guarding the little spinney at the bottom of the lane once again, whether it’s the same one I don’t know but he sits on the gates and flies in front of us as we walk through.

I’ve seen the swans passing through under the bridge with their two Cygnets and quite often if I’m quick enough I can spot the Kingfisher as he flies downstream. I have also had more sightings of deer recently so I have to keep a close lookout. There are plenty of rabbits about and the look healthy, I hate to see them with myxomatosis even though they can be pests.
