Hare spotting

As it was heading towards March I thought it was about time I went looking for Hares in my usual haunts, it was a bit cold and I wasn’t sure if I would see them but it was worth a try. So on 23rd February I took Tilly on an early morning jaunt to the edge of the Cranborne Chase.  I parked the car up and walked to where I hoped to see them through the hedgerows. A couple of Hares took me by surprise as I walked up the road there were two in front of me who quickly disappeared in the hedge.

I spotted a couple through the hedge but they were quite a distance from me. I took some photos and then decided to move on to my other place where I’ve seen them before.

There were some Hares in the field but not at all active, we walked along the path and I managed to get some distant photos. I’m sure they were aware of our presence but were happy as long as we didn’t get too close.

On the way back I returned to the first field and there were three just laying in the side, again not active at all but at least I saw them and will return soon when it gets a little warmer.

There didn’t appear to be many small birds in the hedgerows possibly the cold or perhaps it was because as I was walking down the road a female Sparrowhawk zoomed past and landed in the hedge in front of me, which was a bit of luck! There were also a few Red Kites flying above and a Buzzard, lovely to see in the early morning light.

So it was worth the trip out and I hope to get up there again soon.
