Friday 14th August

Sunrise 05:54 Sunset 20:32

The days are starting to shorten, not too much yet, but this morning it feels like autumn/winter the rain that we have been promised has at last arrived and we have had over an inch during the night and it’s still raining. A good chance to catch up indoors. Kim and I did go out this morning, Lucy decided to stay in bed. We got very wet but Kim enjoyed herself, most of the wildlife was lying low and the stream looked very full, I expect to see the river higher later on.

Our Hedgehog is still visiting regularly she is coming after dark now, I think it’s because she is getting regular food no need to risk coming out in the daylight. We have to coordinate the dogs last tiddle before the imminent arrival of the hedgehog now! She arrives around 9.15pm sprinting across the patio to the food, we can just her make out. Kim just lets us know by giving a little grumble and then settles down to watch her from the conservatory.

There is still plenty to see on our walks an occasional glimpse of the Barn Owl, I think maybe the Owlets are fully fledged and out in the big wide world and surviving I hope! I spot two different Buzzards in the morning, a dark one that flies out of Millham island and a lighter one at the burial ground. The small birds are lying low at the moment, it is very quiet, although there are a few sightings of different birds.

Recently when I was walking down the lane I came face to face with a Roe doe she stood watching us and then turned and disappeared over the hedge.

The Roe deer and her young are still in the field and sharing it sometimes is a young Buck and another Doe.
