We had a visit to Arne today, one of our favourite places, this time I was hoping to see the Water Voles that have been sighted in the Shipstal Ponds. Water Voles have been in decline for some years in England and have disappeared in 94% of their habitat. They are legally protected and I hope they are making a comeback. The walk round Arne is always lovely with views across Middlebere to Corfe Castle and there are also plenty of birds to try and Identify along the way.
The Grey Squirrel below was eating a Toadstool, I was surprised that they would eat them but it was certainly enjoying this one.

We got to the ponds early hoping that no one else was around but there was three photographers with big lenses a sure sign that something interesting was about. Sure enough a Vole popped out soon after we got there, they were very quick in the water!
It went quiet for a while then a very small baby Vole was feeding and swimming and finally before we come on we saw an adult in the water. The photographers were very helpful giving advice so a very good morning, especially seeing the Voles.
