Well we survived the storms relatively unscathed except for some roofing felt sandpapering the roof of our car. The weather has settled a bit and it’s now got colder. The river was running high and just broke the banks in the morning on Tuesday, but it is now receding.

It was a clear night and we had our first real frost which meant a nice dawn and mist coming off of the river fields. I took Kim out before sunrise and it was beautiful and there was quite a lot of action on the wildlife front. The Swans were flying around Hayward’s bridge I’m not sure but they may have been squabbling. There were Swans at Stourhead yesterday doing the same thing perhaps it’s this time of year they sort themselves out? I walked towards Shillingstone Station and there was a flock of Goldfinches feeding off of the dried Burdock seed heads. Then as I returned over Bere Marsh I noticed a large flock of birds in the hedge and it looks like the Fieldfares are back, they seem to like that area, there must be plenty of food there. There was also a Greater spotted woodpecker which flew out of a tree. Then when I got home the Robin below was sitting on the fence and as they always seem to do, posed for me!
