We had a trip down to Weymouth hoping to get up close to a Marsh Harrier, there was meant to be a male and female and a couple of young on Radipole. We saw a male and female but unfortunately they didn’t come too close, we sat in the North hide for some time but they only flew at a distance.
As always there was other wildlife to see, The Crested duck with her ducklings was a chance encounter, the ducklings looked as though they were newly hatched, they bounced on the water like little corks.
There were also some Reed warblers in the reeds, quite difficult to see but we had a glimpse of them now and again.
After looking round Radipole we went to Lodmoor, quite a few birds about but they are starting to look a bit tatty after the breeding season and ready for moulting. Before we even got out of the car park I saw a bird I had never seen before, There was a small flock of Linnets flying about, I managed to get and picture of a male Linnet on some gorse, a very pretty little bird.
We also watched some nesting Common Terns on a small island out in the lake, they were very active bringing fish back for their chicks. Very protective chasing anything that got near to the island off.
