We are now into harvest time and quite often I see the combines working in the fields getting in the grain harvest. Although August has started with heavy rain, which was much needed, we could do with a little more summer! I managed a walk up Hambledon Hill for the sunset a couple of nights ago, it didn’t look to promising until just before sunset the sun shone below the cloud giving a beautiful light on the ramparts on the hill. I was on my own with Kim my German Shepherd dog and I was lucky enough to see a Kite and a family of three Kestrels hunting alongside us.

I was really pleased to see the Barn Owl at Bere Marsh this morning, we have missed seeing them hunting for their young in the evening this year. Because it had rained all night the owl was still out hunting, whether there is now only one in the Barn now we are not sure. I do hope we will see a family next year.
I only had my phone with me but managed to record an image on it of the owl as he flew towards the barn.
