Into 2014 and nothing changes, the weather continues the same with plenty of rain with gales at times and then the occasional frost in the morning.

The River Stour has been over it’s banks for days now and this morning it is nearly as high as Christmas Eve, see my photography blog “Stormy Weather and floods” and with more forecast for later today and tomorrow. That was why we had a fantastic sunrise this morning:

“Red sky at night, Shepherd’s delight
Red sky in the morning, Shepherd’s warning”

Luckily we were out early as the beautiful colours didn’t last for long, as the sun rose the clouds filled in and blotted out the sunrise.

I hope the wildlife is managing to cope with the floods, as we were walking down the field I spotted a fox running across the field behind us, luckily the dogs didn’t see it and I distracted them with treats! The other morning I watched the Kingfisher flying low across the floods, I expect they are fishing along the streams. I can remember one year they came up into our gardens looking for food. We noticed a few animal prints along the stream on the footpath, they looked very much like Otter prints I expect they are having to move away from the river at the moment.

When we got back to our street there were lots of small birds taking advantage of the food on bird tables and we heard the familiar call of a Woodpecker and there was Green Woodpecker on one of the house roofs and he flew down into a garden looking for food.
