Another beautiful morning with clear blue skies which means it is not so good for Landscape photography, I want a little cloud, dramatic skies or mist in the valley to make and image interesting, so I thought I would turn my hand to see what wildlife was about. I took my 100-400mm lens with me, it seems to be getting heavier but it’s the best lens for getting close to nature that I have.

I turned of the Trailway and walked up the field that borders a woodland where there is a Heronry. The Heronry has been there for around 30 years and is well used by Herons and in the last few years Little Egrets. There was certainly plenty of Heron activity, there were quite a few in the trees and a number were flying off as I walked up the field. The Heronry is just inside the wood but the Herons are well hidden in the undergrowth I managed to get a couple of photos, it was so difficult to focus on them through the branches of the trees. I’m looking forward then they get down to nesting when the sounds they make is prehistoric!

I decided to do a circular walk and walk down the Hammoon road and the walk back along the Trailway. I couldn’t resist one landscape image across to Child Okeford and Hambledon Hill. It suited the monochrome I converted it to as the early light was taking most of the colour away.

As I got towards the Trailway I spotted a Yellow Hammer in the same place as last year sat on top of a tree in the early light. There were also the Skylarks flying and singing above the fields, not quite so many as Okeford hill yesterday but none the less enjoyable as always.

There was a lot of bird activity along the Trailway but the sun was in my face and I missed more than I took pictures of. There were a number of Dunnocks scrapping in the bushes near the burial ground.

Of course I couldn’t resist a Robin stretching his wings in the early morning sunshine, if all else fails there is always a Robin about!
