I have been taking pictures of the Grasshoppers in the lane when we took the dogs out, while they are playing I am hunting for Grasshoppers. It is very sheltered and wherever you step one jumps up! I couldn’t resist the challenge as most of them are only 1-2cm in length. I recently had a loan of an Olympus 60mm f2.8 Macro lens for my camera to try it out so it meant I could get much closer.
They are not easy to photograph as they soon disappear in another direction if disturbed. I took a cushion down to kneel on a spent a while with them, such amazing creatures when you get close up. A couple of days after I was taking pictures they cut the lane from hedgerow to hedgerow and no more Grasshoppers, I just hope they got out of the way, I suppose that’s the hazard of living in paths and grass fields at haymaking time.
I just love the fact that I can walk out my door and see all these amazing creatures so close to home.
