I had trip out on Wednesday 7th August to try and find a special plant, my niece had mentioned on her Facebook page that she had seen a Violet Helleborine. I do love to see native Orchids and this one is very rare in this country, a few years ago there was only two sites in Dorset where it could be found and I’m not sure what the situation is now. Anyway armed with a map and instructions from my niece I headed off early in the morning after taking Tilly out. The weather forecast wasn’t looking promising so I wanted to make sure I saw them before the weather changed.

It took a little time to find them but there were a few under the canopy of trees where she had drawn me on her map. So I got down to take photos of them taking care not to do any damage to the plants. It was the first time I had used my new to me 60mm f2.8 Macro lens and I had to use the tiny external Flash that came with the camera to light the orchids, not ideal but I got a few pictures that I was pleased with.

I didn’t realise until I got home that I had also taken pictures wildlife on the Orchids! I was so intent on taking them that I didn’t see the Ant or the tiny flies on the flowers.
