As soon as the schools returned from the summer break we took ourselves off in the Campervan. The main purpose was for a rest, I was just recovering from the Shingles and we just wanted to relax for a couple of days. The weather was kind to us and we stayed on one of our favourite campsites at Thorney Lakes near Muchenley, a much bigger site than we usually go on but it has the advantage of lovely walks and lakes in the heart of the Somerset Levels. It wasn’t busy with only about 3 or 4 vans and caravans so it suited us very well.
It’s not one of the most interesting times for wildlife but it’s a time to look for the smaller wildlife as well.
We spent sometime around Thorney Lakes just enjoying the peace and quiet and then on our last day we went to RSPB Ham Wall for a few hours and then finally to Catcott reserve just a small detour on our way home. So pleased we did as the Cattle Egret were close to the hide which enabled me to take picture and just enjoy watching them with the herd of Exmoor ponies.
