Sunday 4th May

Sunrise 05.38 Sunset 20.35 BST

The weather has changed to chilly nights (light frosts) and lovely days so the paths are drying and the Stour is at a good level.

Everything is changing quickly, although this week I have been preoccupied with Rod in hospital. I have still been taking the dogs out for a walk early so I’m still seeing plenty of action. This morning I heard the Cuckoo for most of the morning from 5.30am until about midday, he was doing the rounds around the valley, trying to find a mate. I’m not sure if he was lucky.

All the small birds are very active although now the leaves on the trees are appearing they are more difficult to spot. I saw another pair of Bullfinches, there seems to be a few pairs about at the moment. The dew was lovely on the meadows and of course you can see the cobwebs in the early morning.

As we were walking over Bere Marsh an Egret flew over which is always a welcome sight and the deer also are grazing over in the meadows there. So I never know where or when I’m going to see them.
