On the 5th and 6th of May I walked up Hambledon Hill both days, the weather was just lovely first thing in the morning and I was looking for Hares. As always I never seem to find what I was looking for but there is always something else to catch my interest. As I walked up towards the hill I spotted a young Roe deer Buck in the field, he couldn’t see me as the pathway is filled in with trees and bushes so I could get fairly close to him.

The views over the Blackmore Vale towards Spread Eagle Hill were beautiful and clear as I walked up the hill and the Cowslips were in flower, just, although beginning to fade.

I spotted my first Twayblade Orchid of the year and there were plenty more coming on, not the most attractive Orchid but still lovely. I notice the Spotted Orchid leaves starting to appear. I shall be looking out for them soon.

On one of the mornings there was a slight mist around in the valley, I took the image below straight towards the sun which gave a lovely colour to the image and showed all the layers in the landscape. On another morning I wouldn’t look twice at the view but it was special at that time.

As I climbed up I heard before I saw a flock of Canada geese, who came into view flying underneath the hill, it was great to get a different view of them from above.

The Skylarks were pretty active and on the ground, a pair were rummaging round the grass and still singing away as they went. I spent a while just watching them I think they were pairing up.

Of course there are cows all over the hill but they don’t seem to take a lot of notice of the humans. The pair of calves were just above me I couldn’t resist taking a picture of them, the contrast of black and white and they did look cute!
