The weather has been very wet and the Stour has been over it’s banks and is still very high today, I’m hoping it hasn’t affected the river wild life once again.
The spring is going along nicely and there are lots of birds in the undergrowth, I can’t always see them but there are a lot of fledglings of all sorts, I was lucky to see some Long-tailed tits in the lane. There are plenty of Greater Spotted Woodpeckers about, they appear to have done very well, I saw around six or seven in different places this morning.
The Goldfinches are also doing well I saw a large number feeding off of the Milk Thistles on the trailway, they are very busy and don’t stay still long.

I had a peep in the old barn this morning to see if there was any sight of the Barn Owl and I was pleased to see two fly into the back where what looks like a purpose built nest has been constructed and hopefully there may be young. I came away quickly so I didn’t disturb them too much, so that is really good news.
When we were walking back towards home the Swallows were making quite a din and then we saw a Sparrow hawk, he didn’t get a feed that time, I suppose he has young to feed as well. The Swallows are very active in the morning flying low over water and the fields catching flies as they hatch for their young, quite often I think the are going to bump into me but they are brilliant flyers.
