I hadn’t been up Hambledon Hill for a few days so on 12th August it looked like a good idea to get up there. A pleasant enough morning and I headed up there just after dawn. A light mist towards Spread Eagle Hill and Shaftesbury and a lovely light looks towards the rising sun and Shroton Lines. The wheat fields had just been cut and the straw was stacked on trailers ready to go; it just emphasises to me that the seasons are moving on!
A Goldfinch was feeding off of the Thistle seeds, there is always a flock up on the hill.
As I was walking up the bridleway I spotted a bird on the slope by the side of me a little distance away, I wasn’t sure what it was and took a couple of photos and when I got home and on the computer I saw it was a Wheatear and looking at the RSPB website RSPB Wheatear it says it is a passage migrant in Southern counties. A very pretty little bird.
