The weather is still hot but this evening when I took the dogs out it had gone cloudy, windy and there was a look of rain, but there is none in the forecast and there is promise of very hot weather by the end of the week.

I just walked to the bottom of the lane with the dogs where I could look over the river. As soon as I got there I could hear the familiar call of a Kingfisher and sure enough as I stood there one flew past and I soon realised there was more than one. The family is still very active. It is so frustrating at this time of the year as I can only see a small bit of the river the tree and shrub leaves have filled in the bank. I must get down there a sit for a while with my camera, although again it is difficult to find somewhere to sit without falling in!

While I was watching them I noticed a small bird in the tree above me going from branch to branch I could have put my hand to touch him. I realised it was a Spotted Flycatcher, a delicate little bird. It was collecting flies in his beak so there must have been a nest nearby, a lovely sight.
