We had to go into Blandford this morning to do a little shopping. The weather was sunny so I took advantage and carried my camera and had a walk in the Stour meadows hoping to see something to take a picture of.

We saw plenty of Mallards, Swans and Black headed gulls and also Kingfishers, we must have seen three or four in this section of the river. I managed to get an image of one sitting on a branch on the other side of the river.

The river is very low at the moment as we just haven’t had the rain but the water is very clear particularly where there is gravel on the river bed. Rod spotted a large fish which he thought was a Chubb and then he saw it’s markings and thought maybe it could be a Trout which is very unusual in the Stour. I took a photo of it so we could have a better look at home and sure enough it is a Trout, how it got there we don’t know but it seems to be surviving which is good news showing the quality of water of the Stour.
