We are slowly slipping into autumn, the weather forecasters are telling us that the Gulf Stream has slipped down across the UK drawing in lows from the Atlantic, which brings winds and rain. All I know is that I need to wear a coat and it’s getting muddy underfoot and Lucy doesn’t want to got out in the rain!

We are not getting much colour in the trees as yet, we need a few more colder nights. I had a trip to the New Forest on Wednesday the Bracken was turning brown but everything else was green.

Every time I walk down to Bere Marsh something has changed they are still clearing the ditches, it’s making things bare but nature will soon take over. I’ve noticed a Kestrel hovering above some scrub near Hayward’s bridge recently, a lovely site against the sky before sunrise. We are also noticing a few Swallows each day passing over, stragglers I would think as it’s getting late in the season for them.

This afternoon I took a walk down to Bere Marsh and along the trailway and back to Child Okeford via Melways Lane, a glorious afternoon and very warm, just when I was saying I needed a coat! There were more Swallows and Martins flying by the Haines-Wilson bridge still feeding, I don’t think I’ve seen so many so late going off to Africa
