Wednesday 10th December

It was mixed weather this morning the wind and rain had almost gone from overnight and the sun was trying to come through.

Yesterday we decided to take a detour round Poole park and see if we could find a different way to the hospital on our daily visit and we found a better route. I was surprised to see a lot of birds on the mud where the tide had gone out close to the shore so today I took my camera. It gave me a chance to practice on moving subjects although I was shooting into the sun most of the time, it was a challenge. We only had a little time but the list  of birds I can remember shows some of the species we saw.

  • Curlews
  • Redshanks
  • Egrets
  • Coots
  • Swans
  • Oyster catcher
  • Gulls of various sorts
  • Cormorants
  • Magpie
  • Pigeons!

We were amused to see some of the waders stomping up and down with their feet which encouraged worms to come to the surface and so the birds had a meal, very clever. We had never seen so many Coots before there was a large flock of them farther out of the shore, there must have been 30 or more.
