August is usually a quiet month in my garden and with the very dry spell it has been even quieter. Up until the end of the Big Butterfly count we were having a few Butterflies in although not in great quantities I recorded Brimstone, Small Tortoiseshell, Painted Lady, Red Admiral, Peacock, Large and Small White, Comma, Speckled Wood and Gatekeeper.

After the count had finished many of the Butterflies disappeared when it got very hot. One I didn’t record that was on the list was the Jersey Tiger Moth I spotted him a few days later, I had seen a couple in the lane flying, their colours are striking in flight.

It was good to see a few Mint Moths actually on my Mint plant this year with plenty of bees as well.

I found this poor Bumblebee on my Conservatory floor, I thought it was dead but when I touched the bee it just moved it’s legs slightly. I rescued it by dissolving some sugar in a little water and it was soon drinking it, about twenty minutes later it flew off refreshed, so pleased I saved it even though it was just one!

Things are getting quiet in my garden, unfortunately the Buddleia is not responding to dead heading any more and the Butterflies are few and far between. We are still getting a few Bees and here are some photos of Bees and Bumblebees I took in the garden before it got too hot!
