There was a promise of a good day and we didn’t have anything particular on so it was a good chance to get out and about. We decided to take a trip down to Weymouth to Radipole Lake, owned by the RSPB. We were there in February and decided to return as it we hoped we would see plenty of wildlife on the water and in the reed beds.

As always there were plenty of birds about both in the water and in the scrub and reeds. Besides the birds in the the pictures above we saw Long-tailed tits, Goldcrests and Cettis warblers in the reeds, they were both too quick for me to get an image. The RSPB are cutting and burning some of the reeds in the reserve at the present time.

In the water there were Shelducks, Teal, Wigeon, Little Egrets, Mallards, Coots, Swans to name a few.

There were also plenty of Tufted Ducks, Moorhens. I spotted one peeping over a bank watching us and managed to get a picture.

The highlight for us was seeing Great Crested Grebes there were two pairs on the lake and they were displaying although a little far away for photographing I still managed to get an image or two.

We decided to take a look at RSPB Lodmoor  before we went home again an area of reed beds. We just went a little way with a promise to return and explore it fully as we spotted some interesting birds.  I was surprised to see a single Lapwing on a little island. and  Little Grebe was fishing in the water nearby. we saw a couple of Herons, on in the reeds preening itself and one flying farther away.

There were also plenty of birds in the trees.
