Taking advantage again of a good weather forecast we had a trip out on Wednesday 25th March. The weather was still pretty cold, but there was promise of a sunny day. Our friend had mentioned a reserve just inside Wiltshire called Langford Lakes which are old gravel pits turned back into a wildlife haven and also a stretch of the Wylye river and a meadow wetland. It was a real treat as you there were several smaller lakes with plenty of hides and it was quiet being a weekday.
There was plenty of birds around in the trees, too fast for me to take photos! There was a Heron and Egret, Ducks, Cormorants, Canada Geese to name a few. Unfortunately they were some distance away from the hides but it was nice to see them all.

There was plenty of Coots and they were busy finding a mate the male below was enticing the female with a twig. I also spotted a Coot on a nest with another bringing in food, so maybe there were eggs already even though it is cold spring is on it’s way.

The highlight was the Great Crested Grebes although again they were a bit elusive but I managed to a picture of them displaying, I wished I could have got closer, still it’s the first time I have seen them displaying so it was great to see.
