A dull morning when Kim and I set out for our morning walk at 6am. There was a possibility of rain in the air. I decided to not take my camera because it was dull and also I am off the a workshop on small animal photography at Colin & Susy Varndell’s http://www.colinvarndell.co.uk in West Dorset today and I had packed all my gear ready.

The first thing I spotted was a young Roe buck in the main field close to home grazing by the woodland, they seem to be popping up all over the place so I have to keep an eye on Kim. As I was watching it a large bird flew over and I was really excited it had a distinctive forked tail, a Red Kite. I watched it for a while but it slowly drifted towards Hambledon Hill.

Our walk went quietly until we got back from Bere Marsh ready to cross the bridge. I noticed what I thought was a current of water moving down under the bridge and then I looked to the other side and there was a fairly big Otter travelling down river, He swam a little way then dived under and popped up again near the corner. My first siting in our part of the river since 1st September 2014, hopefully we will see him again soon.
