At last we had some welcome rain on Saturday morning, the gardens and fields have been waiting and although it didn’t last long it was heavy enough for a while to do some good. Lucy wouldn’t come out with Kim and myself in the morning, she knew it would be raining before we returned from our walk! She’s not daft just getting soft in her old age.

At the moment there is not too much to report, it’s almost like all the wildlife has gone in to hiding. The birdsong, what there is of it, is very subdued and quiet it’s as though they are all having a rest after the busy time of spring and summer. There was a flurry of Swallows overhead when I got to Bere Marsh and then they were gone, who knows where? The goats at Bere Marsh were penned in by the pond and they watched us with interest.

I walked to the old barn they are levelling the floor at the moment, I would imagine the young Barn owls are now fledged. I looked in and there was a Barn Owl roosting in the roof, he just flew to the back and didn’t seem too preturbed. Fiona said that the work would not disturb them, I hope not as it’s an ideal home for them. There are a few Moorhens about, some youngsters who are nearly fully grown on the corner of the river but that’s about it for now.
